Zimbabwean artistes based in the United Kingdom dominate the list of nominees for the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts awards which are scheduled to take place on October 30 and 31 in the UK. The awards which are running under the theme “A grand celebration of talented personalities” are in their sixth year and have more than 50 categories.
Some of the biggest categories include Best Gospel Act, Best International Gospel Act, Best International Act, Best Comedian, Journalist of the Year, Best Beauty Queen and Best Film among others which have strong contenders from across the globe.
Oliver Mtukudzi has been nominated in the Best African Legends category against Malawian Wambali Mkandawire, Suzanna Owiyo from Kenya, Jose Chameleone (Uganda), Grammy award-winner from Benin Angelique Kidjo and France-based Ugandan Iryn Namubiru. Radio personality Simbarashe Patrick Nyanhongo has been nominated in the Best Radio Personality Award category.
“I am so excited to be nominated as it means a lot to me and community development especially in the arts sector. There are other papers and social network groups out there but being recognised amongst the rest itself is the biggest award,” said Nyanhongo.
Other nominees include female model Nyasha Matonhodze, who has made a name in the foreign land, clinching prestigious contracts with brands like Lousi Vutton. Matonhedze is battling for the Best Model Award against top names across Africa who include Elesha Turner, Betty Adewole, Elaine Nturo, Toyin Toni, Tameka Ashanti, Amie Mustapha Joof, Shakira Nabakooza and Vanessa Agyman. and Lisette Mibo.
