Many ecommerce sites handle large sets of data often a times thousands of requests and it needs to be quickly when processing orders.
It has been a will since I visited the City of Harare website and a lot has happened since. The “new website” is looking modern and the Mayor of Harare is not stopping there. For its new online presence, City of Harare sought to improve overall web performance, create a modern design artistic that replicated its position as the sunshine city.
Speaking at ZOL Fibroniks Lite Launch at a local hotel last week, Hon Mayor Bernard Manyanyeni said he still straggled with some of his stakeholders who battle with even email. But that does not seem to stop the determined Mayor who wants to make Harare a connect city by 2025.
“The City is also working on integrating its website with online payment gateways to make it easy for ratepayers inside and outside Zimbabwe to make their payments .The availability of ZOL fibroniks for home and business internet access will also provide our ratepayers with a platform to effect payment a move that will also decongest our banking halls.” Mayor Manyanyeni said.
The site will feature a personalization feature, allowing customers to make rental payments with ease. The site should provide customers with more control through the following functionality:
-
Saved baskets – allowing customers to save the items in their basket and revisit the site to quickly purchase at a later date
-
Complete the look – offering product advice to users browsing the site
-
Reviews enabling user generated reviews to be submitted
-
Product personalisation – custom name and number selection
-
Quick kit selector – home page navigation to
-
Social media – Integrated social media feeds enable customers to engage with Harare City at any time.
Although websites that integrate with other systems typically have some ongoing maintenance costs, the majority of the expense is in the initial project. Time and money saved is typically far greater than this investment.
