Google’s Vice-president of Streams, Photos, and Sharing, Brad Horowitz, wrote a Google+ update to make the announcement. “We’re going to retire Google+ as the mechanism by which people share and engage within other Google products,” he wrote.
Previously, Google introduced the need to log into a Google+ account to use its products. One of the most irritating for users was the need to have a Google+ account to comment or interact with videos on YouTube. Users had been doing this just fine for years before Google+.
YouTube will be one of the first products to drop the need for a Google+ account. The changes will start rolling out in several stages over the coming months.
The only thing that you’ll need a Google+ account for soon is using Google+ itself.
