Last year in November Econet Zimbabwe disconnected more than 1 million subscribers from their network after they reviewed their registration documents, thereby cutting the company’s full-year forecast for subscription from 9 million to around 8 million.
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has started a massive Sim registration process to get back the numbers they had lost. The registration which is expected to continue till the end of March to ensure that many subscribers are properly captured in the Econet database as required by Potraz, has undoubtedly caused tension among Econet staff and subscribers who throng Econet Shops daily.
While many subscribers have grieved over the large crowds, at some Econet shops, however, say there is no better way in which the network provider could update its database, except for the affected customers to visit their outlets for fresh registration of their SIM cards.
