20 January 2016

Transmedia, the state owned company providing radio and television signal distribution services for broadcasters in Zimbabwe is appealing to all the Zimbabwe content creators to register for the opportunity to have their work broadcast in the new channels that are set to come, as they gear up with the digitization.

ZimDigital is introducing a once in a lifetime opportunity to all artists and content creators, film industry personnel and aspiring film makers to bring forth their products for a chance to be featured in the channels that will be launched as part of the greatest digital migration in the Zimbabwean history.

Speaking recently at the launch of the content production phase of the Zimbabwe digitalisation programme in Harare yesterday, Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Thokozile Mathuthu said Government was committed to digitalisation.

She said this was evidenced by efforts that have been put into building transmission infrastructure across the country. Deputy Minister Mathuthu said while Government was in the process of meeting the technical side of digitalisation, it was the content side that mattered most.

“Broadcasting is not about technicians or engineers, but it is about content,If we have no content to show on our television channels, then we may just as well forget about broadcasting.

Zimbabwe is in the process of migrating from analogue television broadcasting to digital television broadcasting. This migration programme is in line with international trends and the requirements for countries to migrate to digital television broadcasting in order to avoid interference situations between countries.

The migration entails the replacement of of all existing analogue equipment with new digital equipment for the country’s television studios and television transmission equipment.

The television transmission network will also be expanded to ensure that reception of digital television services across the country.Although the migration process applies to television broadcasting services only, the programme will also include the revamping of national FM radio network in order to address reception challenges that Zimbabwe in some parts of the country have faced over the years.
