*WhatsApp is back. According to a Gizmodo report, no one knows why the outage happened and the only statement from WhatsApp was: We are currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is working to restore service as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience.*
OUR EARLIER REPORT BELOW:
WhatsApp is down. And Zimbabweans can't deal.
According to the Down Detector, the problem peaked an hour ago as users all over the globe registered a stream of complaints.
Complaints logged include problems with sending and receiving messages, logging in or loading the app at all and making calls. The outage is widespread.
Several Facebook posts and Twitter conversations within Zimbabwe's digital communities reveal surprise and distress.
No doubt the outage triggers memories of a 6 July 2016 WhatsApp blackout.
Reliance on WhatsApp means the highly infrequent service disruption on the App (reportedly used by over 90% of the population) has left millions of Zimbabweans' conversations hanging in limbo.
Fortunately, live comments from Down Detector show users commenting that in some parts of the globe, the service has been restored - hopefully local users will be back on their favorite chat app soon.
