A 'first' in Zimbabwe: ZOL pioneers Online Safety for Minors

2 April 2017

"Internet is a very good technology but there are side effects. So we have introduced Fibroniks Safe Surf" - Denny Marandure (ZOL CEO)

Most parents will admit, with great pride, that their children are far more advanced technologically and that they often rely on their kids for tech tips.

Whilst this is a great thing to take pride in, it also means that many parents are ill-equipped to properly supervise their children’s online activity.

Having home internet is a great investment especially for children. Unfortunately the internet can expose children to very unsavory and age inappropriate content.

Sometimes parents and guardians are not readily available to closely monitor the online activities of their children – and those who might have the time to do so sometimes don’t have the technological know-how to do so effectively.

Enter ZOL and its Fibroniks Safe Surf solution.

Fibroniks Safe Surf uses a content filtering tool that gives parents the power to regulate what their children view or access online. It offers the following features:

  • Parents can view the top visited websites for the last 7 days.
  • Parents can automatically block predefined website categories based on their child’s age.
  • Parents can activate the ‘monitoring mode’ and receive reports on the websites their child visits.
  • Parents can block inappropriate applications  based on content rating (so if the content is flagged as having nudity, violence or vulgar language, your child can be restricted from accessing it).
  • Parents can set maximum usage time for any given day, meaning they can set the hours their child can be online.
