Apple predicts iPhone 6S will sell more than 10 million units

15 September 2015

Apple predicts that first-weekend sales of the iPhone 6S will surpass the 10 million sold by its predecessor last year.

Its stance appears to be warranted. The company has reported strong pre-orders of the iPhone 6S, while the iPhone 6S Plus has sold out online. In addition, it says, customer response to both handsets has been extremely positive.

Apple said, “We are on pace to beat last year’s 10m unit first-weekend record when the new iPhones go on sale September 25.” It did not specify how many pre-orders it has received for either the iPhone 6S or the iPhone 6S Plus.

One of the driving factors behind this demand is Apple’s decision to take pre-orders in China at the same time as the rest of the world.

Apple will release the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus in 12 markets on September 25th. While it is under pressure to meet demand, Apple said that it is “working to catch up as quickly as we can.” Apple pledged that it will have iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus units available to buy from Apple retail stores.
