We’ve just received an that was sent to Telecel staff this morning by the company CEO, Angeline Vere. In the email to all staff, the CEO confirms that Telecel Zimbabwe has been sold to the Zimbabwean government. She however declined to take any any questions from staff saying that the matter is a shareholder matter . Here’s the full email:
Dear colleagues,
I wanted to inform you that our parent companies, Vimpelcom and Global Telecom Holding (GTH), announced earlier today that they have entered into an agreement to sell their (indirectly held) 60% stake in Telecel Zimbabwe to ZARNet, a wholly owned Government entity. Transfer of ownership to ZARNet will occur only after customary conditions are satisfied.

You can read the press release on http://www.vimpelcom.com/Media-center/Press-releases/
Discussions between our shareholders and ZARNet will continue over the coming months and I will update you as soon as I have further details on the progress.
For us at Telecel, it’s very much business as usual and I ask for your continued hard work, supporting our turnaround plan and serving our customers to the highest Telecel standards.
I realize that you will have questions but at this point it’s a shareholder matter and we must continue to focus on our strategic growth plans and serving our valued customers.
Kind regards,
Angeline Vere
