Apple fixes headphone bug with release of iOS 10.0.2

27 September 2016

Just weeks after Apple unleashed its new operating system for mass download, the company has issued an update to fix headphone bugs.

Early adopters of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have had a big change to get used to with the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. This wasn't made any easier by the new Lightning connection timing out and stopping music from playing.

Users of the Lightning EarPods have complained the headphones weren't responding after a while. Reports said the buttons stopped functioning, meaning it was impossible to pause or play music, turn it up or down, or access AI personal assistant Siri.

A statement given to Business Insider said a fix would be quick. Apple has obliged with the release of iOS 10.0.2.

The new update, according to Tim Cook's company, has three main fixes: the headphone bug, a fix to stop the photos app from crashing, and another that stopped some app extensions from working. It "addresses an issue that could prevent headphone audio controls from temporarily not working," the release notes about the update say.

When iOS 10 was introduced by Apple at the start of September it billed the update as one of the biggest it had ever made to the operating systems of iPhones and iPads. The biggest difference turned out to be the introduction of layers of AI to some applications.

Maps, Messages and Photos now include Apple's AI and offer users personalised options. Photos can, for instance, scan images and categorise them in the gallery by people and places involved.

Messages undoubtedly had the biggest overhaul in the iOS. The app now lets users send full screen animations and effects, and a dedicated app store was introduced for Messaging apps.
