Ecocash From South Africa Now Active , and Its Free!

18 October 2015

When you get something FREE from Econet, you have to celebrate! They rarely give anything for free! this time they have moved away from their most expensive mobile money charges to opening Free Ecocash from South Africa!

After 3 years of false starts and regulatory issues, it is now official. You can now receive money from someone in South Africa direct to your Econet number just like you would from a colleague in Zimbabwe.

According to Econet, you can now receive money directly from South Africa with Ecocash and all you need to do is to purchase a call homeSIM card and register at any of the participating flash agents or PEP outlets in South Africa.

What's more intriguing is that the same Ecocash services like paying for bills, buying airtime or paying to merchants are also active from South Africa.

This is one move which will strongly enable mobile payments to transform lives in Zimbabwe as most Zimbabweans have to bear the pains of traditional services like Western Union or Mukuru, which come with obvious limits like few or no presence in most cities and work hours limits across the nation.

For Econet , this is likely going to be another serious cash cow which will directly compete against the traditional giant money transfer agents in Zimbabwe.
